Chaired by a Retired Appeals Court Judge, Mr Justice Isaac Douse, the committee has been tasked to also assess the cost of damage by the fire and submit recommendations on how to prevent future ocurrences.
The committee is expected to submit its report to the Minister of the Interior, Mr Mark Woyongo, on June 30, this year.

Speaking at the inauguration of the committee yesterday, Mr Woyongo, who inaugurated it, called on members of the public who might have useful information about the incident to forward it to the committee to help it come out with meaningful recommendations.

He said the event had caused the nation, families, victims and their relatives great losses.
Mr Woyongo said there was no need to apportion blame but rather “we must all work together and put the necessary structures in place to avert future recurrences”.

He urged the committee members to envision the task as a national duty. “See the work as service to the nation which would surely come with its own rewards,” he urged the committee members.

Membership

Members of the committee were selected from the Ministry of Defence, the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Fire Service.

A hydrologist Consultant, Mr Wise Ametepe, has also been appointed to assist the committee as an advisor.
Mr Douse, speaking on behalf of the committee, said members would work together to investigate the events that led to the disaster.
