Concerned youth calls for calm at Old Tafo

The Concerned Youth of Asante (CYA) has called on all residents of Old Tafo to unite for peace in the face of the misunderstanding that broke out between the Tafo Traditional Authorities and the Zongo community last week Wednesday.

The CYA said it was an unfortunate occurrence but the residents had to unite for peace.

The youth group therefore asked all peace-loving stakeholders to call for calm in the near raging chaotic situation at Tafo between the traditional authorities and the Zongo youth.

This is because the CYA believed Islam “stands for peace and that Muslims are also peaceful”.

The CYA stated that there was no need to deepen wounds but was of the firm belief that no matter the degree of distasteful treatment from the Tafohene against the Zongo youth at the Tafo cemetery last Wednesday, the Zongo community could have referred the matter to the Manhyia Palace where the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, as the overlord of the Ashanti Kingdom, could have been the mediator.

According to the concerned youth what the Zongo youth did in retaliation was also not Islamic and therefore shared the sentiments of the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, and his call for order at Tafo.

Unite for peace

’We are again calling on all Asante youth in the various political parties in the country to unite for peace and not to allow their political affiliations to jeopardise the united front of Asantes,’’ CYA appealed.

Furthermore, the CYA called on the National Peace Council, the Christian Council of Ghana, the Ghana Muslim Mission, the Ministry of the Interior, National Security and, more importantly, the Ashanti Regional Security Council to step up efforts to bring Tafo to normalcy.
