Farmer jailed 10 years for stealing cassava

An Akokoaso based farmer in the Akyemansa District in the Eastern Region has been sentenced to 10 years in jail for stealing cassava valued GH₵500.00.

The accused, Yaw Nkrumah, 28, pleaded guilty.

Chief Inspector Adelaide Appiakorang told the Akim Swedru Circuit Court that the complainant, Mr Kwaku Opoku, lives with Nkrumah at Akokoaso.

She said on February 22, at about 1130 hours, Mr Opoku went to his farm and detected that someone had uprooted his cassava.

Mr Opoku investigated and noticed that Nkrumah was the one who stole the crop.

The complainant confronted Nkrumah, who admitted the offence and was subsequently arrested.
