Four people have been arrested by the police in the Western Region in connection with the robbery of a gold dealer at Wassa Akropong in the Tarkwa area.
The suspects, who have been named by the police as Kwabena Amuah, 25, also known as IK; Mohammed Nasir, 28, also known as Mallam; Samuel Agyei, 24, also known as Okese 1; and Kofi Gyasi, 26, also known as Brefo, were arrested through intelligence-led operations at Duaso and Domeabra on July, 21 and 22, 2026, according to the police.
The Public Affairs Unit of the police in a statement dated Tuesday, August, 4, 2026, said the arrests followed investigations into a robbery reported on March 11, 2026.
It said the complainant, Oris Oduro, had closed his gold buying business at Tamakloe at about 11:00 p.m. and hired a motorcycle (okada) rider to take him home to Wassa Akropong.
According to the police, armed men attacked the two on the way and robbed him at gunpoint.
The robbers made away with GH¢24,000 in cash, and gold valued at GH¢94,530, an iPhone XR and a Tecno Spark 12 mobile phone.
The four suspects have since been arraigned before the Wassa Akropong District Court and they have been remanded into police custody to assist with investigations.
The fifth suspect, identified only as Agogo, is still at large.
