Jaman North to get farmer service centre, cashew factory
The Jaman North District in the Bono Region is set to witness a major boost in agro-industrial development as the government moves to establish a Farmer Service Centre (FSC) and a cashew processing factory to drive value addition and improve livelihoods.
The district, noted for the mass production of cashew nuts, has been selected as one of 50 beneficiary districts to host a centre under the initiative.
The District Chief Executive (DCE), George Adane, who announced this at the “Accounting to the People” series at Suma-Ahenkro, near Sampa, said the centre would be established on a 10-acre parcel of land along the Sampa-Kokoa road under the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA).
Earlier, the DCE led the Bono Regional Minister Joseph Addae Akwaboa and the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Frederick Yaw Ahenkwah, to inspect ongoing projects in the district.
Employment
He explained that the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry had also secured 60 acres of land in the area for the establishment of a cashew processing factory to boost agro-processing and create employment opportunities.
Education, health
On education, Mr Adane said the assembly had constructed and completed several classroom blocks across the district using the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) and Internally Generated Funds (IGF).
He added that many Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) and Member of Parliament-funded projects, including multiple six-unit classroom blocks across communities such as Mayera, Duadaso and Kabile, were progressing steadily.
On health, the DCE said the assembly had constructed and furnished Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds at Yawtwenekrom and Kaabre and completed a maternity ward at the Duadaso Health Centre.
Mr Adane added that a surgical ward was under construction at the Sampa Government Hospital, alongside the construction of nurses’ quarters at Febi, Jinankor, Buko and Nwamsua to improve accommodation for health personnel.
Water, roads
Mr Adane said the assembly had budgeted for 25 boreholes, with eight already drilled and mechanised.
He said the assembly had also undertaken the reshaping of key roads such as the Sampa-Kabile, Kabile-Duadaso No.1 and Buko-St. Ann’s stretches, using IGF.
On financial performance, the DCE said the assembly recorded an IGF of GH¢1,957,151 against a budgeted GH¢5,298,747.20 between January and March 2026.
The Bono Regional Minister, Joseph Addae Akwaboa, announced that the government had earmarked GH¢10 million for the construction of a medical school in Sunyani.
He explained that the proposed school would complement the operations of the Sunyani Teaching Hospital by strengthening medical training and healthcare delivery.
Mr Akwaboa said that preliminary processes had begun for the construction of an airport at Nsoatre in the Sunyani West municipality.
According to him, experts had commenced site measurements and were preparing the necessary technical reports to facilitate the construction project.
