Kpando PDS retrieves over GH¢212,000 from debtors

The Power Distribution Services (PDS) in the Kpando District in the Volta Region collected GH¢ 212, 021.55 after a day’s operation to retrieve money owed it by debtors in the district.

A team led by the acting District Manager of PDS, Ms Phaney Adiko, embarked on  an ‘operation house-to-house disconnection’ during which they visited 402 customers including schools, guest houses and small-scale businesses at Vakpo, Wusuta, Tsrukpe, Botoku, Nkonya-Ahenkro, Nkonya-Kejebi and Nkonya-Tepo.

Customers who owed the company and did not pay were disconnected, while those who were ready to pay were either attended to by some members of the team or were directed to the nearest revenue collection points to make payments before their electricity supply was restored.

Recalcitrant customers

Some recalcitrant customers who engaged in illegal reconnection after the team had disconnected them during the operation, had their power disconnected again and served with summon letters to report to the office to answer for their illegal acts.

Speaking to the media after the exercise, Ms Adiko said the Kpando District had resolved to support the company to deal with debtors, since they were a drain on the company’s resources.

“We sometimes undertake revenue mobilisation exercises but we decided to embark on this intensive disconnection exercise by targeting debtors in our dockets. The exercise was to support the ongoing revenue mobilisation in the region and improve the revenue of the district and the company as a whole,” she said.

Judicious use of power

In the course of the exercise, consumers were educated on the judicious use of power to cut down on their bills.

Ms Adiko urged the public to pay their bills promptly and desist from illegal connections and also report people who engaged in such acts, revealing that there was a financial reward for those who reported persons who engaged in illegalities.
