A benevolent individual has donated GH¢16,012.65, the full cost of surgery for Mr Mark Oppong, who has been diagnosed of brain tumour.
This follows a publication in the Daily Graphic last Tuesday (January 7), calling on kind-hearted persons to help him fund the cost of the surgery.
The philanthropist, who does not want to be identified, made the donation through the Graphic Needy Fund and narrated how she was touched after reading Mr Oppong’s story, hence her decision to pick up the full estimated bill for the surgery.
She prayed that Mr Oppong would go through the surgery successfully and wished him a speedy recovery.
Gratitude
Mr Oppong, upon hearing the good news of the anonymous donor, was dumbfounded momentarily.
“ I was hopeless but now I have hope. May God bless the person a lot,” he said.
The donation
Ms Yvonne Aryee of the Corporate Communications Unit of the Graphic Communications Group Ltd (GCGL) presented the cheque to the Deputy Director of Administration of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Mr Kombian Kambarin, last Thursday on behalf of the anonymous donor and the Graphic Needy Fund.
Mr Kambarin, after receiving the donation on behalf of the Neurosurgery Department of the hospital, applauded the philanthropist for her kind gesture towards Mr Oppong.
He further acknowledged the Graphic Needy Fund for creating that platform to extend help to the needy who are in crisis.
Mr Kambarin stated that the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) did not cover many such critical treatments of patients, adding that “most of them are unable to foot their bills.”
He, therefore, encouraged the Graphic Needy Fund and philanthropists to visit the hospital often and assist the less privileged.
