Volta/Oti regional branch of GBA donates to Teteman CHPS
The Volta and Oti regional branches of the Ghana Bar Association ( GBA) presented medical items valued at GH¢10,000 to the Community-based Health Planning and Services ( CHPS) compound at Teteman in the Oti Region last Saturday.
The presentation formed part of the GBA's annual Mother’s Day celebrations, which support mothers and children in needy communities of the two regions.
The items included one delivery bed, a wheelchair and thermometer guns. The rest are HB machines and a hand Doppler machine.
The President of the Volta Regional branch of the GBA, Moses Ayine Asampoa, bemoaned inadequate basic equipment at health facilities, especially in the rural areas, such that patients who go there to seek treatment sometimes come back home with additional ailments.
Mr Asampoa was of the view that both the rural society and those in the urban areas voted equally to elect a political party to government, and as such, they should all be treated equally whenever it came to the sharing of the national cake.
He wondered whether the country was too poor to provide basic amenities and equipment to health facilities since the health of the people was paramount.
“Health facilities should not be counted by only the number of buildings, but with the complement of medical staff and the necessary equipment, he said.
The Jasikan Municipal Director of Health Services, Isaac Annobil, who received the medical items on behalf of the CHPS compound, said health was critical to the growth and development of the people.
Commendation
He commended the GBA for the gesture and appealed to other benevolent organisations and individuals to come to their aid to improve their services to clients.
The Teteman CHPS compound, built in 2004, has only been renovated once in 2018.
Although it has the full complement of medical staff, its social amenities and infrastructural facilities remain grossly inadequate for effective management of duties.
