Wild elephant killed

The Bawku Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent of Police, Mr Lovelace Kaletsi Tefutor, who confirmed the incident to the Daily Graphic, said following the incident, a group of armed policemen were dispatched to the scene and they managed to shoot and kill the elephant.

He said the remaining seven elephants that were scared by the gunshots ran into the forest. The Game and Wild Life office in the area, he added, had been informed to pick up the dead elephant.

Mr Tefutor said the elephant that was shot had earlier uprooted an electric pole with its trunk which it used to terrorise the residents and create panic in the community.

He also said calm had since been restored to the community.

“As I speak to you now, I am returning to Bawku because the police have been able to restore calm to the community".
