‘MASLOC loans not political handouts’

The Chief Executive Officer of the Micro Finance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Mrs Sedina Tamakloe Attionu, has stated that MASLOC loans are not “political handouts”.

She explained that the loans were meant to improve the businesses of beneficiaries and enhance their livelihoods, so they must invest the funds appropriately and pay back promptly.

Mrs Attionu said this when MASLOC disbursed flexible loans totalling GH¢635,900 to 2,035 women, mostly traders, in the Volta Region to empower them to expand their businesses

The beneficiaries, who had constituted themselves into groups, were from Ho Central, Worawora, Jasikan, Hohoe, Anloga, Keta, Agortime, Kpando and Nkwanta South.

They are expected to repay the loans within a six-month period.

She expressed delight that beneficiaries were beginning to appreciate the fact, a situation that had led to loans recovery reaching about 67 per cent.

Mrs Attionu said the government was poised to empower more women to expand their businesses.

“Women are the mainstay of our society; they contribute immensely to the development of the country and, therefore, the government is well poised to support women in all endeavours,” she said.

President’s support

The CEO said President Mahama continued to give MASLOC the needed support to deliver on its mandate.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ho Central, Mr Benjamin Kpodo, commended the MASLOC management for the good work it was doing and asked the women to put the loans to good use.

The beneficiaries expressed their appreciation to MASLOC for the support.
