Ministry of Education seeks more support for Best Teacher Award scheme

The Deputy Minister of Education in charge of Primary and Junior High School (JHS), Mrs Barbara Asher Ayisi, is courting more companies in the country to support the National Best Teacher Award scheme with a promise to give them the platform to promote their products.

She has assured the sponsors that the ministry would create an attractive platform to make sponsors visible, adding that it viewed the awards as an important motivation for teachers and a way to show appreciation for their hard work.

Thank you visit

Mrs Ayisi was speaking during a “thank you” tour of the EPP Books Service, one of the major sponsors of the award.

The visit gave the minister the opportunity to interact with the management of the company and to thank them for their sponsorship over the years and further encourage them to continue with their sponsorship.

New face

“We want this year’s awards to be unique to serve as a motivation for the teachers to give their best and to serve as a challenge to all teachers to aspire for the ultimate.

“We want to give this year’s award a new face. We want to do something different by being more creative in order to keep the excitement among the public and the teachers,” the deputy minister said.

Package

Mrs Ayisi promised that this year, the ministry would package the award well by rebranding it to make it more attractive to both teachers and sponsors.

“We intend to package the award such that many more companies would want to be part of it and for the whole world to know that you are part of the award so that your business also grows,” she said and promised the company “a very good event”.

Gratitude for visit

In response, the General Manager of EPP Books Service, Ms Millicent Brookman Amissah, expressed gratitude for the minister’s ‘thank you’ visit, describing it as “amazing”.

She said just as the ministry was rebranding the award, the company was also rebranding and believed that with the new direction, good things would emerge.

EPP package

Mrs Amissah pledged the company’s continuous support for the award and an even bigger one saying when the time was up, the company would announce its package for the award.

“So, be rest assured that we are there to support and for this year’s event, we are putting a very beautiful package together, which we know will  go a long way to give incentives to a lot of teachers,” she said.

She proposed that the ministry should include scholarships to deserving teachers, saying she was confident that such an award would encourage teachers to give of their best.
