Minority raises issues with use of GH¢3.6m to rebrand buses
The use of a GH¢ 3.6 million of oil funds for the rebranding of Metro Mass Rapid Transit buses generated controversy in Parliament last Tuesday, with the Minority Leader, Mr Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, questioning the move by the government.

The rebranding of the buses, which involved the embossment of the pictures of President John Dramani Mahama and former civilian heads of state and government of Ghana and the painting of the buses in national colours, according to the 2015 annual report on Petroleum Funds, cost GH¢31, 000 each.
The Minority Leader was of the view that the allocation was unacceptable and a waste of national resources
Rationale
He wondered how the government could spend such an amount on embossment and rebranding at a time when key sectors of the economy lacked funds.
He sought an immediate answer from the Minister of Transport, Mrs Dzifa Attivor, who was in the House to move the motion for the approval of the 2016 budget estimates of the ministry.
"Mr Speaker, how can the embossment of pictures of presidents on a bus cost that much. I want the minister to explain how the cost was arrived at,’’ he asked.
Minister’s response
Mrs Attivor, however, could not address the issue.
She said she did not have the details of the rebranding at that moment and promised to make them available to the House at a later date.
