The ceremony which took off late afternoon on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Akwapim-Obosomase, a community near Aburi, was particularly significant to the chiefs and people as they had lived four decades without a queen mother.

The Obosomase queen mother also known as Madam Mercy Asare Djan, succeeded Nana Adwoa Anyankwabea, the grand daughter to Nana Ohemaa Kokor Sekyebea I.

The newly installed queenmother expressed her appreciation to the people for the honour and confidence reposed in her.

She, however, expressed disappointment at the rate of teenage pregnancy in the town, and advised the youth, particularly, the girls to concentrate on their studies instead of pleasures, which could hinder them or truncate their education at an early age.

Nana Ohemaa Sekyebea II also advised parents and guardians to discharge their responsibilities to their children fully to ensure that they were not unduly enticed with money or gifts from the opposite sex.

Identifying and installing a queen mother according to the Chief of Akwapim-Obosomase, Nana Okofo Ayeh Bekoe I, has been a long held dream for him, his elders and the people.

“ The move to get a new queen mother started two years after ascending the throne, and the efforts we made has finally paid off”, the Chief stated.

Nana Bekoe expressed his joy, and the sheer happiness that the installation ceremony had brought to the people after several years without a queen mother because of a chieftaincy dispute that rocked the town some years back.

“I am hopeful that never again in the history of this town would we go without a queen mother because of dispute”, he stated.
