Obuasi: miner killed during home robbery ; one arrested, two at large

A 42-year-old miner has been killed during a robbery at his home at Asonkore SSNIT Flats Down in Obuasi, where assailants made away with GH¢2,600, a laptop and a car key, the Ghana Police Service has confirmed.

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested one suspect, Rahman Adams, also known as Wale, in connection with the incident, while two other suspects, including a Nigerian national, remain at large.

In a police statement issued on Wednesday, the police said Adams was arrested on January 18, 2026, at Pomposo following an intelligence-led operation, more than a month after the attack on December 12, 2025.

Investigations showed the suspects entered the victim’s residence by cutting through a burglar-proof window before attacking him.

“Police responded and found the body of a 42-year-old miner inside the house,” the statement said.

The police said initial findings indicated the victim was assaulted during the robbery and later died at the scene.

Two other suspects were identified as A.T. and a Nigerian national, both of whom are still being sought by the police.

“One suspect, identified as A.T., and a Nigerian national, both currently at large, are believed to have taken part in the robbery and murder,” the statement said.

Items recovered from the scene included hammers, machetes and cutters, which investigators believe were used to force entry into the house and carry out the attack.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Obuasi Government Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

Police said Rahman Adams remains in custody and is assisting with investigations, while efforts continue to track down the remaining suspects.

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has appealed to the public for information to help locate the two suspects.
