President John Dramani Mahama has issued a direct call to Ghana's prophetic community, urging men of God to shift their focus from pronouncements of tragedy and misfortune and instead use their pulpits to declare hope, peace and national transformation.
The President's message, delivered by the Presidential Envoy for Interfaith and Ecumenical Relations, Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, came during the silver jubilee celebration of Prophet Agyemang Prempeh Ministries, an event marking 25 years of the church's service to God and humanity.
Mr Afriyie-Ankrah, addressing a gathering of ministers of the Gospel, traditional rulers, political leaders and business executives, acknowledged that the prophetic ministry had in recent years come under intense public scrutiny due to the conduct of a few individuals.
However, he cautioned against judging the entire office by the shortcomings of a few, insisting that "there are still genuine prophets who faithfully seek and proclaim the mind of God with humility, integrity and wisdom".
He expressed particular concern that public discourse had become fixated on prophecies of doom, tragedy and misfortune, while messages of hope, peace and national progress received far less attention. He said throughout biblical history, prophets were not only called to warn nations of impending danger but also to proclaim restoration and God's promises.
"It appears that many people focus only on the negative. While we must never ignore divine warnings, we must equally proclaim God's promises of peace, healing, restoration and prosperity," Mr Afriyie-Ankrah stressed. He urged ministers to "speak life over Ghana," declaring peace, prosperity, justice and development despite the challenges confronting the nation.
The Presidential Envoy also used the occasion to outline President Mahama's vision for Ghana's future, expressing confidence that the country possesses the human capital, abundant natural resources and entrepreneurial spirit required to achieve rapid economic transformation . He said the President was committed to building a modern Ghana with world-class infrastructure, quality education, efficient healthcare, thriving industries and a technology-driven economy .
Mr Afriyie-Ankrah drew comparisons to the remarkable progress of nations such as Malaysia, Singapore and China, whose development had been built on discipline, innovation, industrialisation and long-term national planning. He expressed confidence that Ghana could attain similar levels of achievement if citizens remained united, disciplined and committed to the national interest.
Paying tribute to Prophet Agyemang Prempeh, the Envoy acknowledged the ministry's immense contribution to national development through evangelism, youth empowerment, charitable outreach and counselling services . He said the celebration was not only a recognition of 25 years of faithful ministry but also a reminder of the indispensable role faith-based organisations continue to play in shaping values, strengthening communities and supporting Ghana's march towards transformation.
Concluding the President's message, Mr Afriyie-Ankrah declared that "Ghana's best days are still ahead" and called on all Ghanaians to remain steadfast in prayer, patriotic in service and unwavering in their belief that through unity and determination the nation could emerge as one of Africa's leading examples of peace, prosperity and sustainable development.
