The setting up of the committee followed agitations by some workers of the hospital against the appointment of Dr Anaba as the medical director of the hospital.

Following concerns raised by the workers, the GHS Council held an emergency meeting last Monday to examine the issues after which the committee was set up.

Dr Anaba was appointed to replace Dr Emmanuel Obeng Apori, who retired on January 1, 2016 after almost six years of service at the hospital.

Dr Anaba was appointed by the Public Service Commission (PSC) and the Human Resource Department of the GHS, through an interview process.

The petition
Sources close to the GHS Council said the staff petitioned the management of the hospital and the GHS, demanding that a probe be conducted into the selection of the new director, citing breach of procedure.

The petition said Dr Anaba was not qualified to be appointed medical director, especially for the Ridge Hospital.

According to the workers, the hospital was very important and strategic, hence, its management should not be left in the hands of “inexperienced people”.

The staff have placed posters on the buildings of the hospital, some of which read “Aluta! Aluta! Aluta!, Imposition of Anaba As Medical Director, Recipe For Chaos At Ridge Hospital”.

Others were “No Srof No Medical Director, Srof, A Faithful And Committed Servant Of Ridge, Srof Nie, Good Governance, Team Work And Innovation Nie! No Srof As Medical Director, No Work.”

Preference
The staff, however, are calling for the appointment of Dr Emmanuel Srofenyo, a consultant obstetrician/ gynaecologist, as the new medical director for the hospital.

According to them, Dr Srofenyo had stayed with the hospital during difficult times and exhibited commitment, good governance, innovation and team work.

Dr Anaba
Dr Anaba is the Head of the Anaesthetic Department of the University for Development Studies (UDS) School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS).

He is also the Chief Executive Officer of Habana Medical Service, located at Kakpayili, in Tamale.
