The project is estimated to cost GH¢60 million.

Expected to be completed in 2017, the project forms part of a 47-kilometre cocoa road project initiated by the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD).

The first phase of the project, which is about 90 per cent complete, cost about GH¢48 million.

The Vice-President, Mr Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, inspected the project last Saturday to acquaint himself with the progress of work.

He was accompanied by the Volta Regional Minister, Ms Helen Adjoa Ntoso; the National Security Coordinator, Mr Yaw Donkor, and the Krachi West District Chief Executive, Mr Moses Ponye.

Project

Briefing the Vice-President, the site engineer, Mr Jonathan Adjei-Yeboah, said what was left to be done to complete the first phase of the project was the application of bitumen on the road.

He said the second phase of the project began two weeks ago and expressed optimism that it would be completed ahead of schedule in 2017.

Assessment

Mr Amissah-Arthur expressed satisfaction with work done so far and urged the contractor, First Sky Limited,  to involve the people of the area in the execution of the project as a way of encouraging local content.

He cautioned road contractors in the country against “cutting corners”, a practice that often resulted in shoddy work, with disastrous consequences and a huge cost to the state.

The completion of the whole project, he remarked, would foster and facilitate socio-economic development and integration within the West African sub-region.
