Seikwa chief to be buried August 16

The funeral of the late Paramount Chief of the Seikwa Traditional Area, Nana Kwaku Dwumah Ankoana II, who was shot dead by unknown assailants, has been scheduled for August 15-18, 2014.

A delegation of chiefs from the town formally announced the death and funeral plans for the chief to Vice-President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur at the Flagstaff House   and said the burial would be on August 16, 2014. 

The delegation was led by the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr Eric Opoku, the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, who hails from Seikwa, and the Chairperson of the Council of State, Mrs Cecilia Johnson.

 Other dignitaries who accompanied the delegation were the Works and Housing Minister, Alhaji Collins Dauda, Ghana’s Ambassador to Algeria Mr Kwadwo Nyamekye-Marfo and Ghana’s Ambassador to Equitorial Guinea, Mr Alex Asum-Ahensah, who are citizens of the Brong Ahafo Region.

 

Government’s support

Receiving the delegation, Mr Amissah-Arthur described the murder of the chief as unfortunate and assured the chiefs that the government would do whatever it could to support the funeral and also be fully represented.

He expressed optimism that the perpetrators of the heinous crime would be pursued and brought to justice.

Mrs Johnson, who added her voice to calls for the perpetrators to be brought to book, sympathised with the chiefs, and assured them of the needed support to hold a successful funeral.

 

Murdered chief

Nana Kwaku Dwuma Ankoana II was murdered on November 5, 2013 in the Tain District of the Brong Ahafo Region.

He was reported to have been shot in the chest around 8p.m. on that fateful day while relaxing at his home and died on the way to hospital.

Police in the area have since begun investigations into the alleged murder.

Nana Ankoana II was also the owner of the popular construction firm, Asuapem Construction.
