Train local glider pilots - Obomeng chief

The Chief of Obomeng-Kwahu, Nana Effah Pinamang III, has called on the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) to consider training local paraglider pilots instead of continually depending on foreign pilots at great cost.

He said he believed Ghanaians could be trained to fly tourists during subsequent festivals, stating that if Ghanaian military personnel could rescue the foreign pilots who lose their way during flights as a result of misdirection by the wind, then Ghanaians could equally handle the flying aspect.

“Why can’t we train our own pilots to prevent the payment of huge sums of money to the pilots?” he asked.

Nana Pinamang, who described Obomeng-Kwahu as the gateway to the Kwahu Ridge, called for peaceful Easter festivities.

He called on sons and daughters of Kwahu to come home to establish industries to provide employment for the youth who had migrated to the big cities for non-existent white-collar jobs.

Nana Pinamang also urged Kwahus to erase misconceptions about being killed through witchcraft, as it was preventing indigenes from returning home.

Media

Focusing his attention on the media, he said: “The media must highlight the positive aspects of the Kwahu Easter festivities instead of always harping on the negatives alone, which tend to tarnish the image of the people of the area.”

Nana Pinamang said as partners in development, the media must assist in erasing erroneous impressions about the Kwahu Traditional Area.

He wished the citizens of the area a happy festival but advised that the celebration must be observed in moderation.

Queenmother

The queenmother of Obomeng-Kwahu, Nana Dawa Asiedua II, urged ladies to dress decently during the festivities.

She warned that the traditional authority would not tolerate skimpy dresses that exposed vital parts of the body, especially the breast.

At Abetifi, the Kyidomhene, Nana Akuoko Boateng I, in the absence of the acting President of the Kwahu Traditional Council, Nana Asiedu Agyemang III, urged visitors and the indigenes to collaborate with the police to expose suspected criminals.

He hoped that the festival would promote more unity among the people in the traditional area.
