The groundbreaking ceremony for the project was done by the US Ambassador to Ghana, Virginia Palmer, and it is expected to be completed in 18 months.

When completed the facility is expected to contribute immensely to the provision of needed health care for mothers and children, especially neonates, in the country.

Sited near the Christian Village in the Santasi area, the centre will also advance the training of health care professionals and students in maternal and child health.

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, the General Manager of the hospital, Dominic Osei Kofi, said for more than a decade, the hospital which was under the Catholic Health Services, had been one of the beneficiaries and a partner of the ASHA grant programme of USAID.

He said through this unique partnership, HopeXchange had become a premiere hospital endowed with American technology and expertise, and served Ghana with an American inspired tripartite approach in clinical care, medical education and translational research.

“USA leading faculty members from Yale University, Mayo Clinic and others are actively involved in research, transfer of knowledge and American inspired hospital Standard Operation Practices (SOPs), and this has made HopeXchange a hub of medical training for the whole region,” he said.

Partnership

Mr  Osei Kofi stated that through the ASHA partnership and support, HopeXchange was taking critical medical assistance to remote areas, and would soon take delivery of a mobile clinic to augment its medical outreach.

“The mobile clinic is a major investment in the health and well-being of the entire region. This mobile clinic will enable HopeXchange to reach underserved and remote communities, particularly those who are poor, needy and vulnerable, ensuring that no one is left behind due to distance or lack of access,” he emphasised.

Appreciation

The General Manager, on behalf of HopeXchange,  expressed  his heartfelt appreciation to the US government and people for the remarkable contribution to Ghana’s health sector through ASHA/USAID grants.

“Thanks to the support HopeXchange has been enjoying from ASHA and the USAID, the facility is able to provide efficient and crucial healthcare to particularly the needy in hard to reach areas.

“We are particularly excited about the mobile clinic which will play a very significant role in our remote outreach service delivery,” Mr Osei Kofi said.
