The beneficiaries are the Birim Central municipality and the Denkyembour District in the Eastern Region and Effutu municipality in the Central Region.

The Exim Bank of Turkey is providing $160 million of the funding with the government supplementing with $5 million.

The Project Manager of ARDA Grup, the Turkish firm executing the project, Mr M. Ediz Armador, announced this at a news conference at Akyem Oda at the weekend.

Pre-inauguration

He said a pre-inauguration ceremony would take place at Oda, the central operation point of the entire project on July 15, 2016, after which ARDA Grup would carry out some minor works for three weeks and finally hand over the project to the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), which would manage it.

Mr Armador stated that after the project had been handed over, the ARDA Grup would train some staff of the GWCL including engineers and technicians for two more months before leaving the project site finally.

According to Mr Armador, 15 million gallons of potable water would be provided at Oda, Akwatia and Winneba daily.

Reservoir

He said a 600,000 cubic metre capacity reservoir had been constructed at Akyem Asene near Oda to pump five million gallons of water daily while two smaller ones had been built at Bamanasene near Akwatia and Winneba which had 4,000 and 2,000 cubic metre capacity, respectively.

The project manager said five underground water tanks, one each at Akyem Manso, Amantem, Number 4, all in the Birim Central municipality, and two at Winneba, each with 250 metre capacity had been constructed to supplement the giant one at Asene.

Mr Armador expressed gratitude to Ghanaians, especially the people of Oda, Akwatia and Winneba and their environs, for their hospitality during their stay with them and urged them to sustain the spirit.

He said the company’s assets and liabilities would be handed over to the GWCL before leaving finally for Turkey.
