REJOINDER: Bawumia won't lead NPP 2016 campaign

The National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has dismissed a report suggesting that running mate for Nana Akufo Addo, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia would be a prominent force in the party’s campaign activities ahead of the 2016 elections.

According to him, the publication “is a complete misrepresentation” of a comment he made in an interview on JOY FM.

Mr Afoko is reported to have revealed some party strategy, detailing an account to make Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia a more prominent force in the 2016 elections.

He is reported to have said in the interview that Dr Bawumia’s recent lecture at the Central University is all part of the grand plan to enhance his public stature ahead of next year’s general elections.

But in a statement signed by the National Chairman, Mr Afoko explained that what he meant to say in the interview was that the public would see an active participation by party stalwarts such as presidential candidate Nana Akufo Addo, former President Kufuor, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, Kwabena Agyepong, Alan Kyerematen, Asamoah Boateng, Dr Konadu Apraku amongst others in the campaign.

He noted that, as the party’s Chairman, it would be premature to reveal the party’s campaign strategy at whim.

Mr Afoko therefore urged the public and especially members of the NPP to disregard the said publication, adding that, the NPP stalwarts and members would support Nana Akufo Addo’s campaign in order to achieve a one touch victory in 2016.
