In a statement, it said parliamentary aspirants must be card-bearing and paid-up members of the party for two (2) years and also fulfil all constitutional requirements of the Republic of Ghana.

The statement, signed by the Regional Secretary, Mr Bright Edem Droefenu, said nomination forms could be obtained from constituency offices of the PPP in the region at  GH¢500.00 while the filing fee was GH¢1,000.00, both payable by bank draft.

Closing date for submission of nomination forms for constituencies that are ready is Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at 5:00p.m.

In accordance with the party’s constitution, the PPP has also started organising elections at the regional levels to elect officers to man the affairs of the party in the regions.

According to the statement, this is part of re-organising and energising the party for victory in the 2016 elections.

KEEA modalities

Meanwhile, modalities for conducting parliamentary primaries in the KEEA constituency have been concluded.

At the close of nominations for aspiring parliamentary candidates in the KEEA Constituency, two candidates - Mr  John Sterlin and Mrs Doreen Ewurabena Mansa Manieson - had filed their nominations.

A committee set up to put up modalities for conducting the parliamentary primaries assented by the Regional Executive body outlined that all card-bearing members in good standing in the KEEA constituency would be eligible to vote in the upcoming parliamentary primaries.

It also agreed that all card-bearing members who were eligible to vote must attach or show their current voter ID card in addition to the party card for verification and that an eligible voter would have his/her name checked/verified from the zonal register before he /she would be allowed to vote.

A timetable has also been drawn by the region towards the election process, commencing from Monday, February 9, 2015, to Monday, February 23, 2015, informing party supporters about the opening of the PPP election register for two days for verification in the constituency.

All the zonal registers in the constituency would also be opened for verification on Tuesday,  Febraury 24, and Wednesday, February 25, 2015. This will afford all PPP members in the constituency the chance to go and check their names in the zonal register.

The two parliamentary aspirants will come along with their own agents to observe the two-day verification exercise.

The statement said any complaint  would have to be communicated to the regional officials who would be around  to avoid any mayhem.

It said after those two days, the zonal register would be closed and kept by the regional secretariat.

The Regional Secretariat will take over the organisation of the primaries with support from the constituency executives.

A statement from the Regional Secretary of the party, Mr Bright Edem Droefenu, said: “It is our fervent hope that all parties involved will help to make our first ever primaries successful and devoid of any acrimony whatsoever.”
