UFP goes to congress
The United Front Party (UFP) will on February 14, 2015 organise its National Delegate Congress at the Jubilee Park, Kumasi, to elect new party executive members as well as its flag bearer to lead the party into the December 2016 general election.

According to a statement signed by Mr Samuel Bekoe Owusu, General Secretary, the election of new national officers as well as a flag bearer will be on the same day.

It will be recalled that the Daily Graphic last week reported that the rift between the 2012 presidential candidate of the UFP, Mr Akwasi Addai (aka Odike), and the Founder of UFP, Nana Agyenim Boateng, better known as Gyataba, seemed to have no end.
According to another faction of the UFP, the party had reinstated its National Chairman, Nana Agyenim Boateng, who was suspended in August 2012 for going against party’s rules and regulations.
It also barred its former flag bearer, Mr Akwasi Addai, from holding himself as “a member holding any position in the party or putting himself up for election to any position in the party indefinitely”.
A statement issued by the party in Accra and signed by the acting National Chairman, Mr Stephen Forson, said the decision was taken after the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the UFP met in Accra last week Monday to chart the way forward and resolve all outstanding issues.
It also suspended two other personalities, Samuel Bekoe Owusu, the party’s General Secretary, and Kennedy Saku, National Youth Organiser, indefinitely.

The statement from Mr Owusu, however, indicated that the UFP moved a step further in its preparation towards the 2016 general election when it successfully conducted elections in all the 10 regions to elect its regional officers.

The statement added that the election was the last hurdle for the party to complete its re-organisation efforts to position itself well for the election of national executive members and a presidential candidate to lead the party into the 2016 general election.
The UFP was certified by the Electoral (EC) as a fully fledged political party on August 12, 2011 and contested the December 2012 election.
The statement quoted Mr Owusu as saying that besides the fact that the party’s flag bearer for the 2012 election, Mr Akwasi Addai, was not able to deliver to the party’s expectation, the party was confronted with numerous challenges which had a negative effect on the party’s performance.
It said the key contenders for the various positions were Mr Akwasi Addai for the flag bearer position, Samuel Bekoe Owusu for the chairmanship and Razak Opoku for the general secretary position.
The statement did not name the other contenders.
“Ahead of the December 2016 election, the UFP is very optimistic that the party will win parliamentary seats and the presidency by putting the necessary structures in place and building the party from the grassroots,” it said.
