Cameroun dominate individual awards as WAFCON ends

Cameroun's senior female football team, the Indomitable Lionesses in winning the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) have also swept the individual awards.

After beating Malawi 3-0 in Rabat on Sunday,  to claim their first WAFCON title, the Lionesses also won the best goalkeeper and best player of the tournament.

Goalkeeper Michaely Bihina who conceded only two goals and made many significant saves including four penalties in the semi-finals against Morocco, was adjudged the best pair of hands.

The Benfica goal tender in the final game, made some brave saves, denying Malawi any chance of getting on the scoresheet.

While her recognition was not surprising, the award to her teammate, Monique Ngock was.

The USA Washington Spirit midfielder was rewarded for her consistent performance and the midfield supremo who pushed her side to the good show.

Their top striker, Ngah Manga's four goals fell short of the topscorer award which was won by Malawi's Temwa Chawinga.


On five goals wirh two other players Cote d'Ivoire's Ines Konan and Zambia's Barbara Banda, Chawinga won the award with the three assists she provided in her side's campaign.

Algeria, who shocked hosts, Morocco to win the bronze medal 3-2 on penalties, won the Fair Play award.

Prize Money

As champions, Cameroun will receive a cash prize of $2million double the prize won at the last edition.
Malawi will receive $1million.

There is also cash prizes for Algeria and Morocco as well as Nigeria, South Africa, Cote d'Ivoire and Ghana who all lost their quarter-finals.
