CPP to sue TMA over visibility programme

The Tema Constituency branch of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) is threatening legal action against the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) for preventing the party from mounting billboards in the area.

According to the CPP, such efforts are hampering their visibility programme in Tema and its environs.

The CPP in Tema claimed it had followed due process and had written several letters to the TMA via its Town and Country Department to allow them roll out their visibility programme in the area, but had not received a reply to their letters.

“The first application letter was delivered to the Head of Town and Country Planning, Mr Tamakloe on February 2, 2015. The second application letter (reminder) was also safely delivered to the same Head of Town and Country Planning, Mr Tamakloe, on March 17, 2015.”

“We have received no response to any of our letters despite several calls to his cell phone and subsequent visits to the office of Mr Tamakloe. The few times he has picked our calls, he only assured us of getting back to us after he meets with the MCE.”

In a press release, the CPP said it was resorting to the court because “We are certain that we have followed legitimate methods and proper procedures to register our application to roll out our visibility programmes within our constituency. We can only conclude that the TMA is bent on frustrating our efforts to roll out our visibility programmes.”

“Our billboards have been left at the mercy of the weather whilst our banners and posters are occupying space in our office. We strongly feel that this inaction from the TMA is deliberate. We have waited patiently for two months. To date, we have received no response from them; not even a refusal letter. Mr Tamakloe is not even taking our calls again,” the CPP statement added.
