5 MDCEs confirmed in Greater Accra, Ashanti

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) nominees for Ablekuma West, Ablekuma North and the Ledzokuku Municipal Assemblies have been approved by their respective assemblies.

The confirmation election, which was held at the various assemblies in Accra last Tuesday May 13, 2025, saw the candidates for Ablekuma North Assembly, Adamu Mussah Kalamu, and Ledzokuku Assembly, Israel Adjetey Otchweemah, securing 100 per cent “yes” votes for their confirmation.

Mr Kalamu polled 16 votes after a second round of voting following his renomination. In the first round of voting, 10 assembly members voted “Yes”, representing 48 per cent, as against 11 “No”; thus, 52 per cent.

This was followed by an instant renomination of the nominee by the Minister of Local Governance, Ahmed Ibrahim, for a fresh confirmation election, which was allegedly boycotted by five assembly members.

Mr Otchweemah polled all 18 votes at the Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly. Meanwhile, 12 assembly members voted “Yes” for the Ablekuma West Assembly nominee, George Kpakpo Allotey, which represented 86 per cent, with two assembly members voting “No”, which represented 14 per cent.
