Parliament will today begin debate on the Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review presented to the House by the Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, last Thursday.
The Leader of Government Business and Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, announced this when he presented the Business Statement for the 11th week ending Friday, July 31.
He said the debate would run throughout the week, with the Minority and Majority Leaders expected to conclude the commentary on Thursday, July 30.
The Mid-Year Budget Review is expected to dominate proceedings in the House during the final week of the Second Meeting of the Second Session of the Ninth Parliament.
Business
Apart from the budget debate, Mr Ayariga said three ministers would appear before the House to answer a total of 31 questions.
They are the Ministers of Environment, Science and Technology, Health and Energy, who will answer 10, 10 and 11 questions respectively.
He said one of the questions was an urgent question, while the remaining 30 were oral questions.
The Majority Leader added that ministers could also be permitted to make statements on government policy in accordance with the Standing Orders of Parliament.
He further indicated that bills, papers and committee reports could be presented during the week, with urgent bills being taken through all the required stages in one day where necessary.
Committee work
Mr Ayariga urged parliamentary committees to use the upcoming recess to clear outstanding referrals before them.
He said there were currently 520 referrals before 27 committees for consideration and report.
Adjournment
Mr Ayariga also announced that Parliament was expected to adjourn sine die on Friday, July 31, bringing the Second Meeting of the Second Session of the Ninth Parliament to a close.
He urged Members of Parliament to remain committed to the scheduled business before the House rises.
