The Akyem Oda District Pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), Rev. Appea Safo-Kantanka, has called on both sides of the political divide to bury their differences and work in unison to build a prosperous Ghana.
He emphasised that since the objective of all political parties was to ensure the development of the nation, there was a need to cooperate with one another in nation-building to speed up the progress of the country.
Thanksgiving
Rev. Safo-Kantanka made the call when he delivered a sermon at the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service at Oda last Tuesday which attracted many dignitaries.
He called for closer cooperation between New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Oda, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, and the new Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Solomon Kusi-Brako to promote peace, unity and stability among the people, which were essential for the rapid socio-economic development of the municipality.
Rev. Safo-Kantanka expressed concern about the alarming rate of illegal mining (galamsey) in the country of which Oda was no exception and admonished the government to take realistic measures to check the menace.
Reconciliation
The MP for Oda, Mr Acquah, praised President John Dramani Mahama for the national event to reconcile the nation.
He prayed to God to heal the wounds and problems of the country to accelerate national development.
Mr Acquah said his relationship with the MCE, Mr Kusi-Brako, was very cordial even though each of them had different roles to play in governance.
He, therefore, warned those who were trying to knock their heads together to refrain from that negative attitude.
The MP embraced the MCE after his speech to demonstrate to the doubting Thomases about their relationship.
The MCE, Mr Kusi-Brako, explained that the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving Service was aimed at reconciling the entire nation for all and sundry to contribute their quota towards the national reconstruction programme.
He said his checks at the Minerals Commission had revealed that all those engaged in mining in the Oda area had no relevant documents and warned that they should refrain from the illegality before the national task force on galamsey dealt with them.
The MCE and the MP later joined the Muslim community at Oda Zongo for the Islamic prayers.
