Jinapor urges NPP members to embrace reflection after election loss

The Member of Parliament for Damango, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has called on members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to adopt a period of sober reflection following the party’s defeat in the 2024 general election.

According to him, this was not the time for blame games or internal strife, but rather an opportunity for the party to introspect and rebuild with discipline and purpose.

"All of us must understand that this is the time for sober reflection, introspection, and utmost discipline in the party," he said. "Party members, including myself, must discipline ourselves and ensure that at every point in time whatever we say or do inure to the upliftment of the image of the party".

He was speaking in a television interview on Channel One’s The Point of View programme on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.

Mr Jinapor acknowledged the surprising nature of the election outcome, describing it as a significant moment for the NPP to reassess its direction.

“It’s not healthy, but to some large extent, unavoidable. When you lose elections of this nature, you lose an election of such magnitude. It will create some initial temporary problems for people wanting to vent or wanting to express their views," he noted.

The former minister of Lands and Natural Resources emphasised the importance of unity and strategic reorganisation as the party charts a new course for the future.

He urged NPP supporters to refrain from making inflammatory public statements and instead channel their energy towards constructive engagement.
