Nana Akufo-Addo’s 4146 votes (representing 94.64 per cent of votes) proved enough to topple key rival John Alan Kyeremanten – who polled 189 votes (representing 4.31 per cent) – and dark horse Francis Addai-Nimoh, who received 46 votes (representing 1.05 per cent), in the three-man contest.

Within the Wa municipality, motorbike riders went on a spree on the streets in a manner that resembled a victory procession in the main presidential race after results filtered through from other regions signaling Nana Akufo-Addo’s dominance.

Twice a losing candidate in the presidential contest in 2008 and 2012, Nana Akufo-Addo entered the party race as leading candidate, his admirers and supporters touting him as an already marketed face and personality across the country.

At least in the Upper West Region, the judgment seemed right by the margin of victory recorded, as he topped the votes in all 11 constituencies of the region, including polling an overwhelming 601 votes out of a possible 627 votes in the Wa Central Constituency.
