The supporters, Graphic Online learnt, mobilised spontaneously Thursday morning on social media platforms with a mission to present a petition to party executives urging President John Dramani Mahama to grant the convicted trio a pardon.

The trio, Salifu Maase alias Mugabe, as well as his panelists, Godwin Ako Gunn and Alistair Tairo Nelson were on Wednesday sentenced to four months in prison each for scandalising the Supreme Court.

However, a late intervention from the the party scuppered the planned protest. Only a handful, some of who claimed they had read the social media admonition to abandon the protest yet thought they needed to register their dismay. In the end, only about 30 supporters chanting, "No Mugabe, No vote" gathered at the entrance of the party headquarters.

Some of the supporters Graphic Online spoke to said they defied the order from the party in support of Mugabe because they believe he was the targeted specifically by the Court.

According to them, they would abstain from voting in the 2016 Presidential elections if their wishes were not granted.

One of the supporters who spoke on condition of anonymity said, "It was a group but later we got a call that they will work on it so we should go home. But, some of us want to see them working on it right now that is why we are here.

"Someone declared war and another declared all die be die, what happened to them? We are advising our president to do something about it. Right now, we are declaring, No Mugabe, no vote and we are not the only ones, there are about four million NDC population and we won't vote.

"I am here because of Mugabe and I am an NDC faithful. Mugabe is working for President Mahama and I am not going to sit down while he is in prison," said another.

"We condemn the act but the punishment is harsh and I urge the president to exercise his power. I prefer a non custodial sentence. The NPP has also said a lot of things against the EC boss but nothing has been done, why?".
