Speaking at a press briefing in Accra on Tuesday [September 3, 2024], the NDC Spokesperson on Business Development, Trade, and Industry, Hajia Saajida Shiraz said a John Mahama-led administration would create a more conducive environment for business growth.

"Businesses in Ghana are facing unprecedented crises, leading to the collapse of many Ghanaian enterprises," Shiraz stated, stressing on the need for immediate intervention.

She assured that the incoming Mahama administration is committed to ensuring a stable monetary and microeconomic environment to foster business development.

Among the key measures proposed, Shiraz said that the NDC plans to abolish certain taxes, including the Covid levy, E-Levy, and betting levy, to help alleviate the pressures on businesses.

Additionally, the party aims to rationalise import duties and reduce the overall cost of doing business in Ghana.

"We will provide tax incentives, financing support, and reliable, affordable power for businesses operating under a 24-hour economy," Shiraz stated.

She further added that the NDC intends to exempt new small businesses from paying corporate and personal income taxes for the first two years of operation, and will offer agro-production support services for SMEs, linking them to agro-industrial zones.

“We will also launch the export Ghana policy, to expand access to banking for made in Ghana goods and the African Inter-continental Free Trade Area Agreement and other external trade programmes” she added

These initiatives, according to Shiraz, are part of a broader strategy to revive Ghana's economy and support local businesses, positioning the country as an attractive destination for investors once again.
