The service brought together hundreds of party faithful to the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), the venue for the service, which was draped in only the national colours.

The theme for the service, taken from Psalm 34:3, was: “O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together”.

A former Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, the Most Rev. Dr Samuel Asante-Antwi, led in the prayers for the President, the Vice-President, the Speaker of Parliament, the Chief Justice and the government, while the Southern Ghana Union President of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Pastor Thomas Tachie Ocran, led the prayers for the nation.

In attendance were the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo; his wife, Rebecca; Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia and his wife, Samira, as well as Ministers of State, Members of Parliament and party officials.

The General Overseer of the Power Chapel Worldwide, Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng, who preached the sermon, stressed the need for mankind to be appreciative to God for His blessings.

He recounted the story of the 10 lepers who were cured by Jesus Christ, with only one of them returning to thank Jesus for the miracle.

Gratitude

Rev. Boateng said it was important to render thanks to God for His blessings, noting that God was well pleased with the attitude of gratitude.

He said prior to the 2016 elections, indications were that the NPP was at a disadvantage, but it took divine intervention for God to establish victory for the party.

Keep praying for Ghana

President Akufo-Addo, for his part, called on Ghanaians to enter a new era of renewed prayers for God to continue to protect the peace and unity of the country.

“It is right that today we should give thanks to the Almighty. It is He who has preserved and preserved a year ago the peace, unity and freedom of our nation,” he stressed.

He said God had given the NPP the opportunity to serve the people of Ghana, hence the need to give Him thanks and glory “because we know that it is not by our might. It was not by our doing or action but by His might and by His glory”.

He urged Ghanaians to continue to pray for him to be a good leader for the people of Ghana.

The battle is still the Lord’s

President Akufo-Addo paid tribute to members of the party who started the journey to the electoral victory but passed on before the victory was chalked up and asked that they should be remembered by all in their prayers.

“I cannot stand here and give praise to God for His victory and magnanimity without recalling Jake Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey. I seek God’s blessings for him and a peaceful rest of abode,” he said.

The President said the NPP entered the election struggle with one statement, that “the battle is the Lord’s”, stressing that “the battle is still the Lord’s, as we try to build our Ghana”.
