The Municipal Chief Executive Officer (MCE), Mr Richard Ofori-Agyemang Boadi, who disclosed this at the inauguration of the street-naming project at Kunka, a suburb of Obuasi, said an amount of GH¢88,897.96 had so far been spent.

He anticipated that additional funds would be deployed for the holistic coverage of the city, including all the peripheral communities—numbering 63—-which were all of urban status.

Mr Boadi further disclosed that OMA had seen the importance of the street naming exercise and said in 2011, when the first phase started, it was able to identify 100 streets; and 1,200 properties were also identified and numbered.

He said the assembly at that time spent GH¢120,000 on the project, which covered the Central Business District (CBD).

The MCE expressed the hope that after the exercise, the city would have street names with identifiable properties that would provide easy access and easy description to various locations.

Mr Boadi said it would also assist the assembly to trace and value properties, assess their commitments to the communities and render their responsibilities efficiently and effectively.

Mr Boadi appealed to the citizenry, especially the drivers, to assist the assembly to protect the signage and also assist the technical team.

The chief of Kunka, Nana Kwabena Ponkoh, commended the government for such a project, which, he emphasised, could help various assemblies to realise a lot of revenue for development .

Nana Ponkoh noted that, "Taxation is the price of development" and therefore appealed to all and sundry to embrace such a project and ensure its success.

The Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Joseph Yamin, while inaugurating the project on behalf of the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Samuel Sarpong, expressed optimism that the exercise was going to reduce drastically if not eliminate the incessant fraud in revenue mobilisation efforts.

He, therefore, called on all to ensure that the exercise achieved its lofty goals.

Mr Yamin appealed to all to be vigilant to ensure that nobody spoils the signage.

Adansi Bobreasehene, Nana Amakye Kae, who was the chairman for the occasion on behalf of the Adansihene, commended the MCE for his contribution to the development of the Obuasi municipality.

He emphasised that since he assumed office, numerous development projects had been undertaken to improve life in the municipality and therefore urged him to continue in that spirit.

Mr Kofi Owusu-Bempah, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Asi Zip Code Systems Ltd, and a renowned street-naming property —addressing system specialist, who is in collaboration with the Obuasi Municipal Town and Country Department undertaking the project, commended the OMA for its effort at finding a lasting solution to implement the project

He noted that with the street address maps, residents, visitors and property owners could effectively give directions to places like homes and businesses.

He stressed that scotch reflective materials have been used such that people could easily see the street names and house number plates.

Mr Owusu-Bempah further said emergency services like ambulances would find street naming and property addressing very useful, stressing that during emergencies, residents could give a more accurate direction to the police and fire personnel, and emergency response time would be reduced to the lowest levels.
