PPP urges enhanced good governance
The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has called for support from the media, academia and civil society organisations (CSOs) to enhance good governance in the country.

The First Vice Chairman of the PPP, Mr William Dowokpor, in an interview said good governance thrived on strong checks and balances among the three arms of government.
Speaking in Wa in the Upper West Region, he said good governance was strongly linked to development.
“The emphasis here is that leadership must be at the core of development while public officials remain accountable to the people,” he said.
1992 Constitution
He stated that the 1992 Constitution gave too much power to the President and unless it was amended, no political party including the PPP could fight corruption in a bid to transform the economy.
He gave an assurance that a future PPP government would amend the Constitution to ensure that leadership was accountable to the people.
Mr Dowokpor said the amendment of the 1992 Constitution was the surest way to remove all the stumbling blocks to enhance good governance so that any government that wanted to fight corruption would find it easily to do so.
“If the current system remains like this, those in power would not be accountable to those they represent and those they represent will also not be aware of their rights and responsibilities,” he said.
