Teacher eyes NDC Dep General Sec post
A middle-aged activist of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Takoradi in the Western Region, Mr Evans Armoo, has declared his intention to contest the deputy general secretary position of the party at the October congress this year.
According to Mr Armoo, he possessed dynamic qualities that were needed to serve the NDC in that capacity at the national level that would propel the party to clinch total victory in the general election in 2016.
Mr Armoo, who is a graduate from the University of Cape Coast (UCC) and holder of public administration certificate as well as another in management studies, indicated he had the qualities to marshal the youth and woo floating voters into the fold of the NDC, if the delegates gave him the mandate.
Speaking to the Daily Graphic in Takoradi, Mr Armoo, who is a teacher, also explained that having served the party at the constituency and branch levels as vice chairman and helped the party to win in the 2012 polls, he equally possessed the ability to rally the teeming youth to vote massively for the party.
‘‘Looking at the current state of the party, it needs a dynamic young man who can work tirelessly and devotedly and who is committed to working for the NDC to enable President Mahama to retain the presidency,’’ he contended.
The professional teacher observed that the Ghanaian population was youthful in nature and, therefore, there was the need to get someone of that stature to come to the frontline of the party to attract the young men and women into the NDC fraternity.
‘‘I have the expertise to do the job in reorganising and transforming the party at the local and regional levels, as I will link the work to the grass roots. I believe in one team and one spirit slogan which aims to bring all persons on board,’’ he said.
According to him, as the deputy general secretary, he would also rekindle the spirit of cadres, women’s wing and all other dormant organs in the party, by putting them at the forefront to fight the winning battle for the NDC in 2016.
Mr Armoo emphasised that as a party and government, ‘‘We stand the greatest chance to win the national elections and even continue for the next 20 years if we put our house in order. Not only that but also improve and increase our national margin of votes to an appreciable percentage.’’
