Former Black Stars midfielder Augustine Ahinful has cautioned that Ghana faces a difficult challenge against England in their World Cup clash tomorrow, urging the team to adopt a solid game plan and maintain confidence in their abilities.
The Black Stars head into the encounter seeking a second consecutive victory after edging Panama 1-0 in their opening Group match in Canada.
A late strike from Caleb Yirenkyi secured all three points and boosted Ghana's hopes of progressing in the tournament.
Speaking in an interview with Graphic Sports yesterday, Ahinful said England possessed immense quality and were expected to approach the match with determination.
"England have a lot of talented players, and they will come all guns blazing. It's not going to be easy at all, but Ghana must have a clear game plan," he said.
The 52-year-old stressed the importance of teamwork and discipline, noting that a compact and organised performance would give Ghana the best chance of securing a positive result.
According to him, the players would have to work hard to earn their place at the tournament and should believe in themselves as they prepare for the crucial fixture.
"The team has what it takes to do well, but the players must have confidence in their abilities. If they continue to work hard and stay focused, they can go far in this competition," he added.
Ahinful, who spent the majority of his club career in Turkey, declined to identify any standout player in the squad at this stage of the tournament, insisting that it was still too early to make such assessments.
He cited winger Ernest Nuamah as an example, noting that although the youngster impressed during Ghana's friendly match against Wales, he was less influential against Panama. He also mentioned Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, who struggled to make his usual impact against Wales.
Ahinful said he would prefer to assess individual performances after a few more matches before singling out any player for special praise.
