Cricket: Diwali Cup thrills

The third week of the ongoing Diwali Cup T20 Cricket Tournament witnessed a thrilling encounter in the final preliminaries last Saturday.

In the final game of Pool A, Super Max took on Oasis Cricket Club for a final semi-final spot of the group. It was an absolute thriller and had a nail-biting finish.

In this must-win match, Super Max batted first and put on 90 for the loss of eight wickets with Pradeep top scoring with 28 runs.

Their opponents, Oasis, chased this modest total but fell short by two runs managing only 88 for nine in their 20 overs. Batsman Arun was the top scorer with 22. Supermax having qualified for the semi finals will face BGC, who were the top team in Pool B.

The second game was between two strong teams from Pool B. Bel Aqua who took on fast-bowling Everest Cricket Club.

Batting first Everest put on a formidable score of 114 for the loss of seven wickets in their 20 overs. Bel Aqua then chased the target and backed by some superb batting from their opening pair of batsmen Ricky and Nitin, reached 118 for seven in 17/3 overs to seal their place in the semi finals.

Ajay for Everest Cricket club put in a good all-round performance with 40 runs and three wickets for his team. The second semi-finalist from this group will be decided this weekend when Everest cricket club and Kotobabi Knight riders clash. Bel Aqua and Godrej will also play the final game of Pool B this Sunday.

The Diwali Cricket Cup is organised by the Indian Association of Ghana along with the Ghana Cricket Association.
