The annual Gala competition, a two-day soccer extravagaza, which featured all Premier League clubs, was an annual ritual that heralded the Premier League from the 1970s until the late 1990s when it lost its place on the FA calendar.

Newly-elected chairman of GHALCA, Kudjoe Fianoo, told the Graphic Sports yesterday, that the revival of the Gala competition was part of his general vision to make the football clubs active in the country.

He disclosed that the association would soon hold talks with the GFA and the traditional sponsors of the competition to seek ways of reviving the competition next season.

“The Gala is an exciting competition which often sets the mood for the new football season and we need to revive it.

“For me, it will add to the various competitions needed to keep our football clubs active”, he argued.

Fianoo also disclosed that the association, which had the mandate to organise the Annual President Cup on July 1 every year was also looking at the possibility of broadening the competition to cover clubs from the regions.

“We want to take the opportunity to revive some of the old football rivalries such as the Wise-Hasaacas, BA United-Tano Bofoakwa and now the Ebusua Dwarfs-Elmina Sharks growing rivalry to make the competition big”, he stated.

The new GHALCA boss also indicated that his immediate task now was to undertake an overhaul of the GHALCA Secretariat by appointing a new Adminstrative Manager.
