Ghana’s Commonwealth Games chief quits GOC
The president of the Ghana Weightlifting Association, Ben Nunoo-Mensah, last Monday resigned his position as the treasurer of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and all other activities of the board with immediate effect.
Until recently Ghana’s Chef de Mission for this year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, Mr Nunoo-Mensah’s sudden departure from the GOC comes as a shock as the nation prepares for the Glasgow Games.

Also the former vice president of the Ghana Cricket Association, Mr Nunoo-Mensah said in his resignation letter that the decision to step down was for “personal reasons” and was sad to arrive at that.
“I do this with a heavy heart, knowing the amount of work, energy and passion we have put into trying to get Ghana sports on the right track but I have to take this very sad decision for some very personal reasons and wish the rest of the team well,” he wrote in his letter of resignation to GOC President, Prof. Francis Dodoo and copied to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah.
Mr Nunoo-Mensah, however, noted he would be available for a week or so to assist with any briefs that would ensure a smooth transfer of work, and also to keep Ghana on track and all deadlines, especially those in March, on the Commonwealth Games preparations.
