Gyan to lead Stars against Cranes in World Cup group qualifier

Captain Asamoah Gyan says Ghana's Black Stars are bent on making it to the 2018 World Cup and will, therefore, do whatever it takes within their means to qualify.

Gyan is returning to the Stars after missing out in the final qualifier for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations against Rwanda last month.

Gyan, who has returned to Dubai to play for Al Ahli, is among the list of 23 players Coach Avram Grant has invited for Saturday's crucial qualifier against The Cranes of Uganda in Tamale.

"It's back to World Cup business and Black Stars mean business. Russia 2018 a must so it's time to give it our all," was how the captain reacted on his twitter handle as Grant released the list last Friday.

While there are no significant newcowers to the team, given that most of the players have been in and out in the AFCON qualifying campaign, two local stars, Hearts of Oak's Inusah Musah and  Wa All Stars’ Emmanuel Ocran, have been called into the team for close monitoring.

Deputy captain, Andre Dede Ayew, who is out with injury, has younger brother, Jordan Ayew, making the list, and so do Abdul Majeed Warris and David Accam.

The team will train at the Accra Stadium today and tomorrow before moving to Tamale to wrap up their preparation for Saturday.
