Hearts silence Liberty at home

Accra Hearts of Oak coach Frank Elliot Nuttal yesterday guided his charges to record a shocking 3-0 away win over city rivals Liberty Professionals at the Carl Reindorf Park at Dansoman. The win offered the Phobians an opportunity to keep holding on to the third position on the log with 26 points at the end of the first round of the league.

Leonard Tawiah (4oth minute), substitute Cosmos Dauda  (73rd) and Skipper Thomas Abbey (88th)  were the scorers for Hearts as they capitalised  on the many mistakes of their hosts to record that emphatic win at the Carl Reindorf Park in recent league clashes.

Both teams appeared determined for a showdown right at the blast of the whistle with each creating a couple of chances but could not convert them until Leonard Tawiah put the visitors ahead in the dying minutes of the first half.

The homesters responded immediately as they mounted the attack with striking duo Papa Arko and Gerard Arkson making attempts at goal but their efforts were mostly thwarted by keeper Samuel Akurugu who brilliantly cleared the ball.

The game became heated as Liberty’s William Dankyi was given a yellow card for a bookable offence, while Abbey became the second player to receive a card for exchanging words with centre referee Uriah Glah over a free kick awarded to their opponents.
