Hockey: Sapholda beat

Sapholda last Saturday outclassed NDK Financiers as they beat them  3-1 to win the maiden edition of the uniBank Master’s Tournament at the Theodosiah Okoh Hockey Pitch. In an exciting final played under floodlights, both teams thrilled fans with swift counter attacks and excellent saves from both goalkeepers, Ogbamey Francis of NDK and Ardey Edwin of Sapholda.
With two minutes to end the first-half, Sapholda’s Mason James controlled a difficult pass and fired past Francis to complete an excellent passing move which put Sapholda one goal up at half time.
After recess, Sapholda continued to dominate the exchanges; wasting numerous short-corners but they doubled their advantage on the 46th minute when Armah Alfred exhibited a flawless stickwork which enabled him to beat two markers before scoring an excellent field goal.
NDK set up a tense finish when substitute Kweku Boah pulled a goal back on the 60th minute after a period of dominance. The goal motivated NDK to commit more players further up the pitch and they were punished by Sapholda on the break when Antwi Francis scored on the 69th minute to seal a 3-1 victory.
Earlier, Multistix came from three goals down to shock Citizens International by 5-4 to claim third place.
In the Juniors final, Tema Manhean romped to a 3-1 win  to snatch  the glittering silver trophy, while Legonites beat La Juniors 5-4 in a penalty shoot-out after  settling for 2-2 draw.
