His main challenger, George Haldane-Lutterodt, polled eight votes at the annual congress of the association.

A third contestant for the top post in Ghana athletics, Dr Silvanus Lamptey, pulled out at the eleventh hour to contest the vice-president position which he won after polling eight votes to beat Anane-Asare, who polled six votes, one more than third-placed Reks Brobbey, onetime former national athlete.

The congress also voted Marc Dzradosi as the association’s new treasurer, after polling 10 votes to beat Richard Agyepong who had one vote less.

Samuel Aryeh went unopposed for the position of Organising Secretary, while Dominic Kankam was acclaimed as the General Secretary of the association.

Professor Dodoo, who is also the president of the Ghana Olympic Committee, expressed his gratitude to the delegates for their endorsement and pledged to move the sport to newer frontiers, by liaising with the state to develop infrastructure for accelerated development.
