Ghana's WBO Africa lightweight champion, Sheriff 'One Time' Quaye, is set to defend his title against Bright Ayala at the Golden Beach Resort at Korle Gonno, Accra, this month.

The July 8 fight is organised by Swavy Blu Boxing Promotions and Quaye aims to secure his third successive defence of the title since his unanimous decision victory over Joseph Otu nine months ago.

Quaye has a career record of 22-3-1 and 14 knockouts, while his opponent holds a record of 16-1-1, with 11 knockouts.

In an interview with the Graphic Sports, Lawrence Carl Lokko, Quaye's trainer at the Bronx Boxing Club in Accra, expressed confidence in his boxer's chances and stated that Quaye was in high spirits ahead of the bout.

Lokko said they would emerge victorious against Ayala and emphasised that Quaye was focused on earning a convincing win to improve his position in the current WBO rankings.

"We are always in the gym preparing for whoever comes up against us and I am very confident of victory on Saturday."

He emphasised that Quaye's primary focus was to secure a resounding victory, further improving his standing in the current WBO rankings.

"The win is very dear to us because it will enhance our rankings by the WBO and Quaye knows what he has to do to achieve that," Lokko affirmed.

Currently ranked 15th in the WBO lightweight division, Quaye aims to ascend the rankings ladder with an emphatic win over Ayala.

Following three consecutive victories since his loss to Michael Ansah in March 2021, Quaye's career has been on an upward trajectory.

A successful title defence against Ayala could open doors to potential world title opportunities in the future for the Ghanaian. On the other hand, Ayala, undefeated in his last three bouts after a unanimous decision defeat to Nigerian Joshua Oluwaseun Wahab five years ago, seeks to make a statement by dethroning the champion.
