In a statement issued in Accra, the GBA stated that the programme would commence in the Western Region with the inauguration of the Western Regional Boxing Promotions Committee before moving to the Ashanti, Northern and the rest of the regions.
Mr Walker, currently the Central Regional GBA president, is expected to facilitate, coordinate and assist in setting up the committee which will organise promotional boxing tournaments in order to recruit boxers, referees, judges and trainers.
This, the GBA hopes, will attract sponsors, managers and promoters to the region.
The statement added that the committee would collaborate with the Regional Amateur Boxing Federation, Regional Sports Authority, metropolitan and district assemblies and regional coordinating councils, to assist in reviving boxing in the region.
Mr Walker’s committee had also been tasked with discovering competent amateur boxers which the authority hopes will be groomed into professionals.
