We will provide live GPL coverage with or without GBC - StarTimes

The Chief Operations Officer of StarTimes, Mr Felix Ahonzo has assured that the Chinese pay television provider will provide live coverage of the Ghana Premier League starting on Sunday, "with or without" production support from the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC).

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Mr Ahonzo admitted that the existing relationship between the two companies had gone frosty in the aftermath of a statement from the GBC accusing the Ghana Football Association of unfairly awarding television broadcast rights to his outfit.

However, he maintained that although his outfit would like to maintain its business relationship GBC which has existed since 2016, live coverage of the Ghana Premier League would go ahead with or without production assistance from the state broadcaster.

"We want to assure you that as far as StarTimes is concerned we are in very good terms with GBC," Mr Ahonzo said.

"We have been in a very good relationship with GBC since 2016, and we have not been attacked directly and we are keeping the relationship as it is. We have a business relationship, we have a partnership relationship and that is not being destroyed".

He stressed that StarTimes was not compelled to continue relying on GBC for production assistance.

"We did start with GBC but that does not compel us to get stuck with GBC and so we going to be moving on. With or without GBC, StarTimes is going to be bringing to you live matches at all the venues as selected".

Meanwhile, StarTimes has announced that 38 live matches will be produced for the remaining first half of the season, starting on Sunday with the tie between Accra Hearts of Oak and Ebusua Dwarfs.
