Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Assembly mobilises GH₵9.7m in revenue by August

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Assembly (BABMA), Sebastian Obeng, has announced that the Assembly has collected a total of GH₵9,787,538.51 in revenue as of August 2025.

Breaking down the figures, Mr Obeng said the Assembly mobilised GH₵3,324,110.11 as Internally Generated Fund (IGF) and received GH₵6,463,428.40 from the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) Secretariat for the first and second quarters.

Speaking at a community engagement with stakeholders in Bibiani, the MCE gave assurances that the revenue would be used judiciously to support government’s “Resetting Agenda” by financing infrastructure development and improving livelihoods.

He explained that portions of the IGF had already been channelled into projects including the completion of a six-unit classroom block at Queens Senior High School, dredging and desilting of storm drains at Sefwi-Bekwai and Bibiani, and assistance to community self-help projects.

Mr Obeng emphasised that such engagements with residents, institutions, and opinion leaders are anchored on Sections 40 and 42 of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), which mandates Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to create an enabling environment for citizens to participate in governance.

The session, held last Friday, was attended by the Member of Parliament for Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai, Bright Asamoah Brefo, the Acting Municipal Coordinating Director, heads of departments, and residents.

Addressing recent claims of financial impropriety, the MCE dismissed speculation that funds had been mismanaged since the Assembly’s appearance before the Parliamentary Select Committee on Local Government on September 18, 2025. He described the reports as “deliberate falsehood” that should be condemned.

“It must be emphasised that I provided this figure to the Parliamentary Select Committee on Local Government when we appeared before the Committee. People who are in doubt of this figure are at liberty to verify the veracity or otherwise of this amount from the DACF Secretariat,” Mr Obeng clarified.

He assured residents that the money was intact. “This amount is safely sitting in the Assembly’s accounts, and it would be used solely for its intended purpose,” he stated.
