‘Responsible economic reporting key to dev’t’

Financial journalists have been urged to report economic issues accurately instead of trying to assign their own meaning to it.

An Assistant Director of the Governors’ Department at the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr Johnson Asiama, said reporting on economic issues was a strategic area and as such, journalists must present their facts well to promote economic growth.

“You are financial journalists, you are special, so you need to cross-check and make sure that the information you put out there is based on facts. You need to report the issue as it is, even when trying to relay it in a layman’s language,” he said.

Dr Asiama was speaking on the theme, “Improving knowledge base for effective financial and economic reporting” at a two-day workshop organised by the Journalists for Business Advocacy (JBA) with support from the Bank of Ghana and Ecobank Ghana.
